The Crab Feast in Ruther Glen is back, just a short drive from Fredericksburg and waiting for crab-lovers to enjoy as much of this seafood as they want. As always, the annual Crab Feast is being hosted by the Caroline Chamber of Commerce and puts all the seafood you can eat at your disposal.
Where, When, and Tickets
The 2017 Crab Feast will take place at the Caroline County Fair Grounds. Head there in the late afternoon on September 16 for a delicious dinner that Saturday night. The gates open at 4 p.m. and the event runs until 10 p.m. Tickets cost $40 each and that includes all the crab you can eat. You can buy your tickets online through Event Brite.
More Than Just Crab
In the past, the focus of the Crab Feast has always been crab. While that is still the highlight of the event, this year, the Caroline Chamber of Commerce is sweetening the deal. Every ticket this year includes a half pound of steamed shrimp as well! There will also be hush puppies to complement the crab and shrimp. Your ticket also gives you access to tea and water so you don’t get dehydrated.
Plenty of Entertainment at Crab Feast
There won’t be a dull moment during the Crab Feast since music will be playing almost the whole time. DJ Wick Coleman will be providing the music and should have a nice mix of songs from multiple genres. Guests are welcome to play cornhole during Crab Fest as well; all the equipment for that game will be on hand.
This year, the C.I.V.I.C. Award Ceremony will also take place during the Crab Feast. The 2017 Community Involvement and Volunteerism in Caroline award will be given to a deserving resident of the area that has excelled in life and is heavily involved in the community. Nominations closed August 30.
Getting to the Fairgrounds
You only need about 35 minutes to get from Fredericksburg to the Caroline County Fair Grounds, making the Crab Feast well worth attending. Start off by taking I-95 S, which you can access from Plank Road in Fredericksburg. From there, follow I-95 S along its route to Madison. You will then take Exit 110, which is VA-639 toward Ladysmith. At the exit, turn right onto Ladysmith Rd, which is also known as VA-639 E. From there, just turn left so you take US-1 S. County Fair Lane will appear in a few miles, where you should take a right. From there, the fairgrounds will be fairly obvious on your left.
With a vehicle from Volvo Cars Fredericksburg, the drive from Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Ruther Glen will go by quickly and smoothly.
