Nothing really describes the pure bliss of biting into a perfect bowl of macaroni and cheese. The combination of gooey, hot cheese, soft pasta, and crispy top layer make for a dish that words can’t begin to capture. Whether you prefer the home-baked version with bacon on top, or the straight-from-the-box childhood favorite, you’re in for a treat. This month, Fredericksburg hosts its 1st Annual Mac and Cheese Fest. There will be macaroni galore at this festival, so prepare to feast!
1st Annual Mac & Cheese Fest
The Mac and Cheese Fest takes place Saturday, Oct. 28 at Old Mill Park in Fredericksburg. Come from noon to 3 p.m. to enjoy unlimited samples of mac and cheese from the city’s favorite restaurants. Pay attention while you taste because the restaurant with the most votes will win the People’s Choice trophy. This family-friendly event is fit for the whole gang. No alcohol will be served, but water and soda will be available.
Tickets cost $27 for adults and $15 for children 10 and under. Guarantee your spot by purchasing tickets online. There are already more than 7,000 people interested in the event on Facebook alone, so the crowd will be anything but thin on this weekend.
Benefiting Habitat for Humanity
As if a festival full of macaroni and cheese wasn’t already good enough, this Fredericksburg food fest benefits one of the area’s most philanthropic organizations. Proceeds from the event support the Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity.
The local Habitat for Humanity branch serves the city of Fredericksburg along with Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George counties. This Christian-based ministry works to eradicate homelessness and poverty housing in the greater Fredericksburg area. Events like the Mac and Cheese Fest help fund initiatives for safe housing for families in need. Habitat for Humanity never charges interest to homeowners and makes no profit from building for low-income households.
Volunteer Opportunities
Giving back to your community is important. With Habitat for Humanity, it’s easy to make a difference in the greater Fredericksburg area. You can always donate funds, but if you’re looking for a more hands-on way to contribute, consider volunteering for building projects. There are also opportunities to volunteer with ReStore.
