It doesn’t matter how much money you have in your pocket. Sometimes it’s nice to go out without spending a wad of cash. Fortunately, that’s easy to do if you live in Fredericksburg. This historic city is full of free and affordable things to do.
Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park
The Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park easily makes it to the top of the list. The park is free to enter, although you will have to spend a dollar or two if you want to watch one of the films. This park doesn’t stand out because it’s free. It stands out because there is so much to see and do. It has a ton of battlefields and buildings to check out, but the Sunken Road is probably the coolest spot in the entire park. Take the tour at this spot so you learn about the history of the Sunken Road. This was the spot of one of the most lopsided battles in the entire Civil War. Confederate soldiers hid behind the rock wall at the Sunken Road and fired at the Union troops. You need to hear the entire story from a guide. It is really something, and it will give you a new perspective on the war.
Historic Kenmore
Historic Kenmore consists of a house and grounds, and you can see them both for a mere $12. What’s so great about a house, you ask? Well, it used to belong to George Washington’s sister and her husband, so it has a lot of history inside of its walls. Now, it’s worth noting that you can’t see all of the rooms in the home. However, you will get a great view of the 18th-century colonial mansion. The restoration team painstakingly restored it to its former glory all the way to the plasterwork in the ceilings. The ceilings are the most beautiful you will ever see, so it is worth a stop just for that.
Old Mill Park
When you don’t feel like spending any money, the park is always a great place to go. Old Mill Park is a favorite spot for people in Fredericksburg. It’s a busy place during the spring and summer. During those months, you will see people picnicking, fishing, and playing around. You might want to jump into the river and take a swim, but that’s forbidden. The river has a strong undertow, so leave the water to the fish.
You are going to do a lot of traveling to attractions this spring and summer. Make those trips more fun with a new ride from Volvo Cars of Fredericksburg in Fredericksburg, Virginia. These luxurious and powerful vehicles are ready to take you anywhere.
