Ingredients

  • 2 eggs and 3 egg yolks
  • 2/3 cups and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar
  • 1 loaf (1 pound) of challah bread (about 10 cups cubed)
  • 2 cups of heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon of pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups of whole milk
  • 1/4 cups of rains (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

The day before you plan to make the bread pudding recipe, slice the stale bread into 1 inch cubes and leave overnight to dry out.

Step 1: Preheat the oven temperature to 325ºF.

Step 2: Combine the salt, 2/3 cups of sugar, vanilla, eggs and egg yolks, and if you’re using nutmeg add it as well. After that is thoroughly mixed together, add cream and milk. Add in the bread cubes and optional raisins, toss them to coat. Let sit for 10 minutes.

Step 3: Place the bread mixture into a 7 inch by 11 inch baking dish, sprinkle sugar on top, and place in the oven to bake for 40 to 45 minutes.

Step 4: Remove from oven and let it cool for 35 minutes before serving.
